Dreamworks Television and Amblin Television are in pre-production on a new science-fiction drama television series titled “Under The Dome” based on the novel by Steven King published in November 2009. Casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are conducting auditions for the show’s series regulars and recurring roles. Shooting will take place in Wilmington, NC beginning in March, 2013. All stand-ins for the series principal actors and all background performers will be cast in Wilmington. “Under The Dome” is scheduled to premier on Monday June 24, 2013 at 10pm on CBS.
The series is set in the not too distant future and centers on residents in the small town of Chester’s Mill, Maine who find themselves cut off from the world by a mysterious barrier that surrounds the town. Big Jim Rennie is the ruthless town councilman, who’s son Junior is holding local waitress Angie against her will thinking he is protecting her. Joe is Angie’s brother who meets Army veteran Barbie, a man on an enigmatic mission in town. Deputy Linda Everett is engaged to a firefighter who is stuck on the outside of the dome. Phil Bushey and Dodee Wheeler run the local radio station, and hear a terrifying intangible voice on a rogue frequency. The sound cuts out and they then hear a military frequency about a potentially dangerous plan being considered by military forces outside the dome.
Starring in “Under The Dome” is Young Artist Awards nominee Britt Robertson as the waitress and medical center volunteer Angie McClatchey; three-time Young Artist Awards winner Colin Ford as Angie’s Brother Joe; newcomer Alexander Koch is playing Big Jim’s smart but deeply disturbed son Junior Rennie; model and actress Natalie Martinez has been cast as Deputy Linda Everett; Nicholas Srong portrays the local radio station DJ Phil Bushey, an indie rock fan who’s a charismatic figure with a dark secret; and Jolene Purdy plays Dodee Wheeler, the brainy radio engineer at the station.
Directing the premier episode is Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev from an adapted teleplay written by Primetime Emmy nominee Brian K. Vaughan. Oplev gained critical acclaim internationally for directing the Swedish version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in 2009. He recently served as producer and director on the CBS series “Unforgettable”. Vaughan wrote the script based on a science fiction novel by Stephen King, who attempted to write twice in the late 1970s and early 1980s, under the titles “The Cannibals” and “Under the Dome”. They were two very different attempts to utilize the same idea, and the new “Under the Dome” novel utilizes only the first chapter from the original material.
Seven-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Neal Baer is serving as executive producer and showrunner. Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg is executive producing for Amblin Entertainment. Also executive producing for DreamWorks Television is co-president and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Justin Falvey, Primetime Emmy Award winner and co-president Darryl Frank, and CEO Stacey Snider. In addition to writing the script, Brian K. Vaughan will also executive produce.

Story:
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when – or if – it will go away. Dale Barbara (To Be Cast), Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens – town newspaper owner Julia Shumway (To Be Cast), a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie (To Be Cast), a politician who will stop at nothing – even murder – to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.
