ABC Studios is getting set to begin shooting a new single-camera 1/2 hour comedy series pilot titled “Trophy Wife”. Casting directors in New York and Los Angeles are auditioning talent for a variety of roles, including series regulars, co-starring, guest starring, possible recurring, and day player roles. In addition to the principal actor roles being cast, many extras will be hired throughout the shoot which will take place beginning December 3rd in Los Angeles. There are speaking and non-speaking roles for teens and adults.
The show centers on Kate, a 27 year old free-spirited wild child gal. Her life is turned upside down when she falls in love with and marries an affluent businessman named Brad Harrison, who is 20 years her senior. Turns out Brad has several children from previous marriages – 15 year old fraternal twins Hillary and Nelson, and 7 year old Bert. In addition, Brad has two ex-wives, Diane and Jacky. Dianne is an accomplished intimidating woman, a former Olympic swimmer who is now an orthopedic surgeon who thinks that Kate is a result of Brad’s mid-life crisis. Jacky is a good-natured yet self centered woman who is always surprised when her freewheeling style rubs people the wrong way. And then there is Meg, Kate’s hard-partying, cheerfully promiscuous younger sister who is a little jealous of Kate’s new family.
Starring in “Trophy Wife” is Teen Choice Award nominated Swedish Canadian actress, model and singer Malin Åkerman as Kate. Earlier this year Åkerman was cast in another ABC comedy pilot “The Smart One”. Also starring is three-time Golden Globe Award nominee Bradley Whitford as Brad Harrison; Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden as Brad’s ex-wife Dianne; Saturday Night Live alum Michaela Watkins as Brad’s other ex-wife Jackie; Gianna LePera as Brad’s daughter Hillary; and Natalie Morales as Kate’s sister Meg. Malin Åkerman and Bradley Whitford previously worked together on the Tom Cruise film “Rock of Ages”, where Åkerman played Debbie Harry and Whitford played Nicky Gant.
Jason Moore will direct the pilot episode of “Trophy Wife” from a teleplay written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern. Moore has directed episodes of the television shows “Brothers & Sisters,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Everwood”. He directed the Universal Pictures Peoples Choice Award nominated film “Pitch Perfect” starring Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow. In addition to film and television, Moore was nominated for a Tony Award for directing the Broadway musical “Avenue Q”. He also directed the Broadway plays “Steel Magnolias” and “Shrek the Musical”.
Producing is Dan Kaplow, who began his career with Dick Clark Productions, working on American Bandstand. His television producing credits include “The Sopranos,” “United States of Tara,” and “The Mindy Project”. Kaplow is also currently producing the HBO series “Hello Ladies”. In addition to writing the teleplay, Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern will also executive produce along with four-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Lee Eisenberg, and three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Gene Stupnitsky.
