Update: Kristen Schaal has replaced Mandy Moore in the role of Louise.
Kapital Entertainment is prepping to begin production on a new 1/2 hour comedy series pilot for ABC titled “Pulling”. Shooting on the single-camera show will get underway mid-March at the ABC Studios in Los Angeles. Casting directors in both Los Angeles and New York are auditioning actors for series regulars, guest starring, possible recurring, and under-5 roles. The extras casting director will hire background performers throughout production. “Pulling” is based on the hugely popular British sitcom of the same name.
“Pulling” revolves around three dysfunctional women in their 30s living their lives the way they want, even if society tells them they should have it all figured out by this point. When Donna decides to break up with her sweet but boring fiance Karl right before their wedding, her best friends Louise and Karen have got her back. For the series, these three women try to balance society’s expectations for women in their thirties – getting married, having kids, great job – with the realities of being single and making questionable life choices in the city – a challenge for which they may be completely unprepared.
Starring in “Pulling” is actress, comedienne, and screenwriter June Diane Raphael in the role of Donna. Raphael is from New York and studied acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has appeared as an actress in the television shows “Happy Endings,” New Girl,” “Animal Practice,” and “Flight of the Conchords”. Also starring is singer–songwriter, actress and fashion designer Mandy Moore playing the role of Donna’s best friend who is desperate to snag a husband. Moore has been nominated for a Grammy Award, won three Teen Choice Awards, won two Young Hollywood Awards, won a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award, and won an MTV Movie Award among many other nominations and wins. Moore became a Disney Princess when she voiced Rapunzel in Walt Disney Pictures “Tangled”.
Jason Moore will direct “Pulling” from a script written by four-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Lee Eisenberg and three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Gene Stupnitsky. Jason Moore began his career on Broadway as the resident director of Les Misérables at the Imperial Theatre. He was nominated for a 2004 Tony Award for his direction of the Broadway musical Avenue Q. Moore recently directed the ABC pilot “Trophy Wife” starring Malin Akerman. Writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are currently writing the screenplay for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s upcoming film “Ghostbusters III” which will start shooting this Summer, 2013.
Aaron Kaplan, owner of Kapital Entertainment, will executive produce. In addition to writing the script, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will also serve as executive producers. Dennis Kelly and Sharon Horgan will also executive produce. Kelly and Horgan co-wrote the British version of “Pulling” on which this show is based upon. Sharon Horgan also played the role of Donna in that series, which aired on BBC Three. That series was BAFTA nominated for Best Situation Comedy while Horgan won a British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Entertainment Actress.
