Grammnet Productions and Akil Productions are gearing up to begin shooting season 7 of the CBS Television Studios hit BET comedy-drama series “The Game” on October 1st in Atlanta, GA. Auditions for guest starring and recurring roles are being cast out of the Los Angeles casting office, with additional casting for supporting and day player roles being done in Atlanta. Now the extras casting director has sent out a casting call for extras, featured background actors, and upscale female model types. The show has been renewed for 22 episodes that will begin airing in 2013.
“The Game” follows the lives of professional football players on the San Diego Sabres and their significant others as they navigate fame, family and friends. The “Girlfriends” series spinoff originally aired on The CW, but was cancelled after three seasons in May, 2009. Then BET signed a deal with The Game’s parent company CBS to develop new episodes of the series, and relocated taping of the show from Los Angeles to Atlanta. In January 2011, the BET premiere for the fourth season attracted a record breaking 7.7 million viewers. When the sixth-season finale aired on September 3, 2013 it became the season’s No. 1 comedy series telecast on all of cable among women 18-49.
Starring in “The Game” is nine-time NAACP Image Awards nominee Wendy Raquel Robinson playing the role of Tasha Mack, mother of football player Malik Wright, played by Image Awards nominee Hosea Chanchez; Coby Bell plays Jason Pitts, team captain and star wide receiver of the San Diego Sabres, while Grammy Award winner Brandy plays his wife Chardonnay Pitts; Black Movie Awards nominee Lauren London plays Keira Whitaker, a former child star actor struggling to transition into an adult star; and Jay Ellis rounds out the main characters playing Bryce “The Blueprint” Westbrook
“The Game” was created by Image Awards winner Mara Brock Akil, who is also executive producer and head writer. Her husband Image Awards winner Salim Akil also is executive producer and has directed the majority of episodes. The two also serve as showrunners. Three-time Image Awards nominee Kenny Smith Jr. executive produces along with Erica Montolfo-Buro and three-time Golden Globe Award winner Kelsey Grammer.

Various directors work different episodes during the season. In television shows composed of individual episodes, the television director’s role differs from that of a film director in that he or she may work only on some television episodes as opposed to the director of an entire film production. In episodic television productions, the major creative control resides with a producer of the show. The television producer(s) with creative control is called the showrunner(s) (in this case, Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil).
