Sony Pictures Television has been given a series order for a new ABC TV show set in the early 1960’s about the pilots and flight attendants who once made the now-defunct Pan Am airlines the most glamorous way to fly. Auditions for principal actors, guest stars, extras, stand-ins, and photo doubles will take place throughout Summer 2011. Filming on season 1 of “Pan Am” begins on July 25, 2011 in New York.
The series is being described a female-driven soap opera revolving around the daily lives of the airplane personnel. “Pan Am” will premier in Fall, 2011 and follows a group of young flight attendants who sign on to the “new” luxury airline with high hopes of of making a change in their lives. The passengers and crew experience a voyage whose environment is shaped by romance, a volatile 1960s society, and even undercover espionage.
“Pan Am” is executive produced by four time Primetime Emmy Award nominated writer/producer Jack Orman. Orman recently signed a new two-year, seven-figure overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, and he also serves as head writer of the show. Thomas Schlamme, who has won 9 Primetime Emmy Awards, directed the pilot episode and will co-executive produce.

Story:

There’s Dean (Jonah Lotan), a cocky, charismatic and ambitious new pilot. The first of a new breed not trained in the war. On the sly against company policy, he’s dating Bridget (Annabelle Wallis), a stunning beauty with a mysterious past. A rebellious bohemian, Maggie (Christina Ricci) turns into a buttoned up professional for work so she can see the world. Rounding out the crew are flirtatious Collette (Karine Vanasse), the adventurous Kate (Kelli Garner) and, finally, Laura (Margot Elise Robbie) – Kate’s beauty queen younger sister, a runaway bride, who recently fled a life of domestic boredom to take to the skies.
